Basic Berry Topping

Ingredients
- 1 can OregoN Blackberries, Blueberries, Boysenberries, Gooseberries or Red Raspberries
- 1-2 tablespoons cornstarch
- Optional flavorings
- Optional flavorings: (add one of the following)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- ½ teaspoon almond extract
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon or nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon grated lemon or orange peel
- 1 tablespoon liqueur or brandy
- Makes about 1 ¾ cups.
Instructions
Drain berries; reserve syrup. Blend syrup into cornstarch; cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and clear. Add desired flavoring. Gently stir in berries.
Serve Basic Berry Topping on pancakes, waffles, ice cream, puddings; as a filling for jelly rolls, cakes, meringues, crepes; as a glaze topping for cheesecake, cream pie, or tarts.
