What is Calamansi?
A hybrid between kumquat and mandarin, Calamansi (also known as calamondin) is a Southeast Asian citrus fruit that packs a punch. While technically a lime, its flavor is more nuanced—offering intense tartness, a sweet-citrus aroma, and a hint of tropical flair. Native to the Philippines, the Calamansi has played an important culinary role, used in everything from marinades to condiments to beverages. In World War II, US and Filipino soldiers enjoyed this tiny lime in “Filipino Lemonade” when traditional lemons were scarce.
Why Calamansi Works in Brewing
Our aseptic Calamansi puree for brewing is a citrus bomb that performs similarly to tangerine, pink grapefruit, or blood orange. Its acidity and brightness make it a strong contender in:
Fruited Sours
Hazy IPAs and Pale Ales
Kolsch-Style Ales
Lagers
Citrus-forward RTDs and Shandies
Because of its strong citrus character, Calamansi can stand up to intense hop bills and still bring balance to the final product. Its vivid yellow-orange flesh also adds a burst of color to lighter base beers, making it ideal for spring and summer releases.
Versatile for Cider, Kombucha & RTDs
Beyond brewing, bulk Calamansi puree is also a great fit for ciders, kombucha, and ready-to-drink beverages. It adds both color and complexity, delivering a round tartness that brightens the entire flavor profile. Whether you’re building a mocktail with layered citrus or launching a hard kombucha with Southeast Asian flair, this fruit brings standout results.
