  1. Combine gooseberries, sugar, vinegar and salt in a saucepan.
  2. Simmer for about 40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Stir in the spices during the last 10 minutes.
  4. The chutney may be packed in small sterile jars or stored in refrigerator.
